On 24 June in Hanoi, the BritCham Board, BCAC, and their representatives hosted a lunch with the Vietnam-UK Network (VUKN) delegation led by Chairman Mark Kent, former British Ambassador to Vietnam (2007–2010). The Vietnam-UK Friendship Association also joined the event.

Update on Amended Special Consumption Tax (SCT) Law
On June 14, the National Assembly officially passed the amended SCT Law, introducing new tax rates on alcoholic beverages with 93.72% of deputies in agreement. The amended law will take effect on January 1, 2026, with SCT increases starting January 1, 2027.

Call for Comments on Draft Cybersecurity Law
BritCham is calling for member feedback on the Draft Cybersecurity Law, which aims to streamline and enhance Vietnam’s legal framework by consolidating the 2015 Law on Network Information Security and the 2018 Law on Cybersecurity

BritCham Submits Comments on Draft Disease Prevention Law
Responding to concerns raised by industry members, including Diageo and Pernod Ricard, BritCham’s comments focus on the proposed establishment of a Disease Prevention Fund, which could mandate financial contributions from producers and importers of products deemed harmful to health, such as alcohol. BritCham’s submission highlights the potential cost burden this fund would impose—especially in light of the upcoming Special Consumption Tax increase—and supports the industry’s call for careful consideration of its economic impact.

The submission highlights key issues, including investment requirements for establishing private schools and the need for clear mechanisms to ensure effective quality assurance and accreditation. BritCham’s recommendations seek to align the draft with international best practices, provide clarity for existing institutions, and support the continued development of Vietnam’s education sector.

BritCham Contributes to Dialogue on Work Permit Reform
Given the strategic importance of the work permit regulatory framework and the new Draft Decree replacing Decree 152/2020/ND-CP, BritCham has actively gathered member input and submitted consolidated feedback to the Vietnam Business Forum (VBF). BritCham also attended recent consultation meetings co-organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Justice, raising key concerns and recommendations on behalf of the UK business community. To keep members informed, BritCham will host a webinar on 23 July to update on key changes.
