Following announcement from the Trump Administration regarding the imposition of a 46% reciprocal tariff on Vietnam’s export goods, the Minister of Finance has requested quick inputs from the business community on the potential impacts and recommended responses.

On 20th March 2025, BritCham host the inaugural meeting of its Trade Working Group (TradeWG). The TradeWG represents a significant step forward in strengthening the commercial ties between the United Kingdom and Vietnam.

The draft SCT Law proposes sharp tax hikes on alcohol, beer, and sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs), raising concerns about economic impacts. BritCham Vietnam has submitted a letter to Mr. Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Economic and Financial Committee, advocating for a gradual tax increase on alcohol and beer, excluding SSBs from the SCT list, and policies supporting business sustainability.

On March 28th, Ho Chi Minh City hosted two significant conferences focusing on Vietnam’s financial sector development. The first conference, organized by the Ministry of Finance, addressed the growth of investment funds and strategies to attract both domestic and international capital. The second, led by the MOF and Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, discussed plans for establishing an international financial center within the city.

In response to the draft legal documents guiding the Data Law, issued by the Ministry of Public Security in January 2025 and opened for public consultation, the VBF Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) and the Banking Working Group (BWG).

Amendments to regulations on handling administrative violations effective from 2 May 2025. On 18 March 2025, the Government issued Decree No. 68/2025/ND-CP (“Decree 68”), amending and supplementing Decree No. 118/2021/ND-CP (“Decree 118”). Decree 68 officially takes effect on 2 May 2025, replacing several provisions of Decree 118 and updating 9 attached forms
